While we mostly seem to focus on diecast toys on this site, vintage vinyl toys are also quite prolific.  These were certainly less expensive to manufacture and were more affordable to the masses back in the day.  There were many different manufacturers of vinyl robots, and some of these toys are quite rare and valuable now.  Among the expanse of vinyl toys, Popy issued transparent vinyl robot toys with paper "guts", pipe cleaner, and tinsel inserts.  These are among the most beautiful and creative of vinyl toys.

Unfortunately, over time, the vinyl starts to yellow (whether it be due to "natural" chemical aging / interactions or possibly due to impacts from smoking shopkeepers).

Some modern toy manufacturers also took up the practice of creating this style of vinyl toy.  Here's a few examples of some of these toys of robots, tokusatsu, and kaiju.
