Dairugger XV MechaGold
Description
Imported to the U.S. in the 1980's, this Dairugger XV is an odd toy. It features a plastic and gold plated outer shell wrapped around metal! Most of the metal is weighting and screws, but the toy has some heft.

Then in an homage to the Japanese Kikoukanti toy, it pulls apart. Only this toy's size is closer to the Popy standard sized toy rather than the larger Popy combination toys.
Most collectors list this as a bootleg toy. Possibly it has official roots with the naming; feel free to add details.

Mine was in mint, shiny condition after all the years when I received it. However, upon putting it out on display (and invariably handling it), the chrome got ruined faster than any toy I've ever seen. A great looking toy in box, but be warned - handle with care. or better yet, don't handle at all!
I have the version that says Popy Japan and the propellers are not silver. The box is almost identical except for the Popy Japan labeling in the front. Very interesting toy.
Sweet man! I've not seen a legit version....so this was based on the Popy toy then I take it. Was it identical with the plastic and weighting? -Or was there more diecast?
