PC-39 Super Abega Jet Robo

4.6/5 rating (5 votes)

Description

PC-39 Super Abega Jet Robo

Godaikin number 301001 Abega Vehicle DX New Super Abega was originally from Lightspeed ElectroGod Albega.  As with most Godaikins, this toy was intended for the Japanese market and had a storyline that never made it to the United States.

In the beginning of the series, each pilot also used a smaller aircraft, which was flown in through small hatches into the backs of the robots in order to pilot the robots. The three aircraft could also combine into a single jet called the Super Abega. They were very quickly replaced by a different set of small aircraft that could transform into different bipedal droid forms, and similarly combined into the New Super Abega.

Toy historians will recognize that the Alpha Beta and Gamma are Greek symbols and they appear on the Voltron II toys.  Point of fact, these jets and those robots were actually part of the same Lightspeed Electroid Albegas (光速電神アルベガス Kōsoku Denjin Arubegasu).  This  anime series was aired from 1983 to 1984 in Japan.

Toy collectors of the Albegas DX (or Abega) will love the sculpt.  The diecast content is high, with diecast landing gear, nose cones, as well as various fins and winglets.  Collectors will hate the fragility of the toy.  The diecast quality on the silver parts was low.  Simply expect tarnishing even on unused stock.

Then just prepare for a broken part if you play with your toys.  In fact I had a robot leg joint split in half the first time it was bent.  Leg joints use "flexible" plastic on hexagonal pegs; terrible design.  Memory conjures up toy stores with broken Abegas that split apart on shipping.

LightspeedAlbegas

One of the more interesting stories is that these Abegas toys as well as Laserion robots were sold in the Future World section of Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  Disney kept a number of display Laserions and Abegas for people to test.  90% if these were sadly broken when new.
