Transformers Jetfire-Titanium
Old 70's robot vogue is new again and diecast is back on the scene. Our venerable Generation 1 Jetfire has fallen and risen from the ashes in 2006 as Titanium Jetfire. We have quite a solid new toy here to enjoy with less size and more fun.
The titanium series of Hasbro/Takara has been building off of the Star Wars line and just begun to ease into the Transformers line. Inside Transformers Titanium Jetfire's box is about 7 inches of diecast jet and a well thought out design. This more deluxe model is larger than the smaller titanium static models and actually transforms.
Jetfire's transformation is a bit less elegant than the older G1 toy, but never the less simple and play friendly. Just pull off the wing and jet pack from the plane's spine to start. The wings spin 180 degrees and become a backpack. Once the wings are stripped off the plane you need to pull around the main jets to become legs and feet. Tucked under the wing is a tuck-away head and chest. With quite a bit of design gusto, designers made the cockpit and tail section to become right and left arms. -Cool, and it works well.
Inside this nifty design is front landing gear and rear fold-away landing gear. Each leg flawlessly hides landing gear. The front landing gear folds into the pelvis.
As I worked the toy the first time I felt jetfire's main gun was missing. You might remember the G1 toy having a bomb that turned into a large gun. Transformers Titanium designers didn't leave out this touch; you can pull each bomb off and combine them for a double barrelled had gun.
I miss the size of our old G1 Jetfire but I sure think Hasbro did a great job with this Titanium line toy! Let us hope for more great designs in this line and maybe, possibly, a bit more size for future releases. -Solid A grade for Jetfire in this new school design.
